Job Summary:

We are seeking passionate and dedicated Elementary Teachers to join our dynamic team at DCS. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering a positive and engaging learning environment for students. Elementary Teachers should be able to manage a classroom, communicate and teach one or more subjects clearly and effectively, and follow school procedures. They are responsible for monitoring each student’s progress and providing extra mentorship to those who need it. They should also enforce school rules and encourage good student behavior in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate lesson plans based on curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles

  • Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, homework, and presentations

  • Helping students prepare for standardized testing

  • Overseeing students during recess, lunch and other activities

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives

  • Meeting and working with other teachers and supervisors to discuss school policies

  • Working some evenings and weekends to create lesson plans and grade assignments

  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.

  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students

  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff

  • Regular and predictable attendance

Cognitive Demands:

  • Supervision of multiple students at once

  • Establishing routines and procedures

  • Maintaining a safe and orderly environment

  • Create and implement instructional plans

  • Participate in continuous professional development

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs

  • Stand and walk frequently

  • Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat

  • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year

  • Withstand a moderate noise level

  • Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary

  • Assist/lift students, as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification with elementary endorsement.
  • Experience teaching at the elementary level (preferred but not required for newly certified educators).
  • Strong understanding of child development and effective instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
  • Proficiency in using technology for instruction and communication (e.g., instructional software, online platforms).
